Long Floor
Our company was founded in 1937, when John Long opened J. P. Long Floor Supply, Co., a Porter Cable sanding equipment and sundries distributorship. That first store was located in, what is now known as, the historic Shockoe Bottom area of Richmond, Virginia.
In 1947, a 19 year-old Alfred Lewis joined the company as a mechanic in the repair shop. Alfred, better known in the industry as "Al", was instrumental in helping John Long and his borther-in-law Charlie Miller build the J.P. Long Floor Supply Company. Al became the most respected saleman and friend to the hardwood flooring professions in the Mid-Atlantic region. Al Lewis purchased the company in 1978 and changed the name to Long Floor Supply, Inc.
Al and his two sons-in-law, "Chip" Armstrong and L.A. Carroll, along with many other talented and loyal employees and customers, have built Long Floor into the leading, full-service hardwood floor distributor it is today. Our headquaters is currently located ina 50,000 square foot facility just off Interstate 95 in Richmond, VA. In 1999, Long began its expansion into other markets with the purchase of the assets of the T. R. Hazlett Company in Beltsville. T. R. Hazlette had been a well-respected and friendly competitor in the industry for over 60 years. In 2000, we added our third location in Raleigh, NC. Most recently in August 2005, we opened our newest location in Chesapeake, VA.
In 2007, our Raleigh location merged with our sister company, Horizon Forest Products. Still operating out of three locations in Chesapeake, VA; Richmond, VA; and Beltsville, MD; Long Floor services the entire states of Maryland and Virginia, as well as, parts of West Virginia, Delaware, and northeastern North Carolina. Our facilities are full service with extensive inventories of prefinished and unfinished flooring, equipment, and sundries products.
Horizon Forest Products
Horizon Forest Products was founded in 1993. The company employed eight employees in a 20,000 square foot facility located off Highway 70 near the Raleigh-Durham International Airport. At that time, the company carried about 200 products. Over the years, Horizon Forest Products' goal as remained unchanged from their inception 15 years ago: To provide the best products, and the best service to our customer, and to help them be successful.
Today, Horizon Forest Products employs over 150 team members and is a top distributor of products for hardwood flooring contractors and custom cabinet makers in the southeast. Horizon carries over 4,000 products.
Horizon Forest Products provides premium materials to cabinet makers and hardwood flooring contractors and is proud to offer one of the largest selections of exotic and hard-to-find pine flooring. In 2007, the company moved into their new 101,640 square foot building. The facility is located at 4115 Commodity Parkway in Raleigh. The new building allows Horizon Forest Products to better serve their clients by carrying a larger and more diverse inventory.
In that same year, the company also partnered with Long Floor, allowing them to offer one of the most comprehensive inventories of pre-finished and un-finished hardwood flooring, flooring equipment, abrasives, finishes, fasteners, and accessories in the mid-Atlantic region.
